Manchester United and Chelsea are closely monitoring the Uruguayan defender “Ronald Araújo” of Barcelona. With his contract set to expire in 2026, both Premier League giants are eyeing a potential deal for the player at a reduced price.

According to British outlet Caught Offside, the two clubs are keen on signing the Uruguayan defender, whose contract with Barcelona runs until 2026. Meanwhile, the Catalan club has already begun negotiations with Araújo regarding a potential extension. Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed during the club’s annual general assembly: “We are working on new contracts for Araújo, De Jong, and Pedri.”

Despite the positive progress in negotiations between the club and the 25-year-old player, there is still a possibility of the talks collapsing until Araújo officially signs the extension. Barcelona’s financial difficulties could potentially delay the deal, giving Chelsea and Manchester United a chance to swoop in with a lucrative offer that might tempt the defender.

Araújo’s 2024/2025 season has been delayed due to a hamstring tear he suffered during the Copa América tournament this summer. Reports suggest that Araújo is making good progress in his recovery and is expected to return in mid-December. However, it’s likely that Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández will ease the defender back into the team after such a lengthy absence.
